In a gruesome incident, a middle-aged woman was attacked and then eaten by a group of stray dogs here on Saturday.

Kashmira Bhai, 45 year old native of Chak Sadia village in Jalalabad near Ferozepur, went to the fields alone but on the way back about ten stray dogs ‘nabbed’ her, dragged her back to the fields and ate a large part of her before neighbours could rush in to save her.

But she had succumbed to her injuries by then, said her husband Kala Singh. Her body was sent for postmortem. Bhai is survived by her five daughters.

This is not the first time that stray dogs in the area have made humans their prey. There have been several incidents lately and even the administration has been appraised about it. But no steps have been taken.

Paramjit Singh Parma, DSP Jalalabad, said that he had send a detail report to Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur to instruct the civil as well as medical authorities to immediately implement precautionary measures.

Angry villagers said that wild life laws prevent them from getting rid of the deadly dogs that they want to ‘poison’ to death. Their ire is however directed against the administration, which have shown little inclination to protect the lives of the villagers.
