india Updated: Aug 26, 2006 00:16 IST

TAKING STRONG note of the dissatisfaction shown by chief minister’s representative and member Board of Revenue T George Joseph during his inspection of sanitary condition in various parts of the city, district magistrate and nagar nigam administrator Amrit Abhijat issued a warning to safai karmacharis to improve sanitary conditions by August 30 or face serious action.

Addressing a meeting of sanitation inspectors and naiks at his camp office here today, the DM expressed his ire over poor cleaning done by them in the city area.  He gave them six days’ time to improve functioning.

Nagar swashtya adhikari Arun Kumar and sanitation inspectors assured the DM to improve the condition in the given time. The DM said there were 2,500 safai karmcharis in the nagar nigam but their output was only 45  per cent.

Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Ravindra Nath Tripathi directed the NN officers to ensure switching off all sodium lights in the city area after 6 am. He said though the municipal commissioner had made efforts in this regard there were many areas where streetlights remained on after 6 am.

He appealed to the citizens to register such complaints to MC on phone number 2422538 or to him on 2250800 . Tripathi asked the officials to speed up the pre- revision process of the electoral lists by going door-to-door. He also asked ADA officials to pay compensation for land acquired by them for the Dev Prayag, Nav Prayag, and Trivenipuram housing schemes.
