With examinations nearing, Nishant Garsa is bed-ridden and worried about his career. Early this month, he was allegedly assaulted by a group of students who, he claimed, had been harassing him for a long time.
The parents of this final-year electronic and communication student of a private engineering college in Gurgaon claimed their son was a victim of bullying activity, similar to ragging, for a long time at the hands of powerful students.
"A group of five students thrashed my son so brutally over a trivial matter on March 5 that he suffered serious injuries in his testicles. He has been bed-ridden ever since. With examinations just a couple of months away, his study has been affected. He was being harassed for a long time but I had kept quiet for the sake of his career," said Surinder Garsa, a former IAF officer.
He said, "this kind of treatment tantamounts to ragging as he had been harassed ever since he got admission. The police registered a case of simple assault. No one has been arrested," he said.
Gurgaon police commissioner S.S. Deswal said it was not a case of ragging as those who assaulted the student were also final-year students. "A group of students assaulted Nishant over some issue and a case was registered in the Bilaspur police station."
The college authorities could not be contacted.
