BEST is the second best transport system in the world after London and the best in Asia.
Its service is fantastic but it lacks one thing: You climb or you don’t climb, the bell rings and off goes your BEST bus.
This is how the Facebook campaign, started by a bunch of collegians last month, begins.
Tired of falling off the bus and getting injured, students got together to ensure that BEST drivers wait till their passengers get on and off the bus before driving off.
The teenagers have also filed a complaint at the Santacruz police station about a particular bus.
Armed with responses of 165 members of the online group, last week the students decided to move beyond online protests and get BEST to take action.
“After the Facebook campaign, we realised that the problem is rampant in the city and there are many who have been injured at least once because of this. It is amazing how this city gets accustomed to everything and gets on to the same bus the next day,” said Heena Shah, a Class 11 student, who started the campaign.
We then approached BEST to find a solution,” said Heena.
The BEST has assured that the staff will be instructed.
“Their campaign has been forwarded to the assistant general manager and action will definitely be initiated,” said A.S. Tamboli, public relations officer, BEST.
“I fell off and injured myself two months ago because the bus started before I got on. I see it happen everyday. So, when I spotted this campaign, I knew I had to be part of it,” said Vrusha Patel, a 19-year-old student. “I hope BEST actually initiates the action they’ve promised.”
