A BA-II student of the Kalicharan Degree College Mulayam Singh Yadav, who is a contestant for the students’ union president’s post, fell in the police net along with five other members of his gang on Thursday. Yadav not only confessed to orchestrating the loot of a Bolero jeep and killing of its driver, but also divulged his plan to help a hardcore criminal escape from the Lucknow district jail.

Acting on a tip-off, station officer (SO) Gudamba police station KP Singh laid a trap and intercepted a Bolero jeep near Jankipuram on the Ring Road. The cops recovered a double-barrel country-made revolver, cartridges and crude bombs from the jeep and arrested occupants Mulayam Singh Yadav, Amit Kumar alias Anshu, Gyan Singh, Babloo Yadav, Harish Dubey and Anuj Shukla.

Yadav’s cohorts had killed the driver of a Bolero jeep (UP 32 BQ-7761) while returning from Neemsar, Sitapur on August 13. Amit, also a BA II student of Kalicharan Degree College and Gyan had booked the jeep from the Khadra taxi stand in Hasanganj for Neemsar. Amit, Gyan and Anuj had killed its driver Ganesh Kumar and looted the jeep, which was recovered today.

The cops also recovered a letter written by Lucknow jail inmate Manoj Rastogi to Yadav. Rastogi had sought Yadav’s help to escape from police custody when he would come to the court for hearing in a case.

Yadav revealed that sitting president of the Kalicharan College students’ union Manish Yadav was supporting him in the forthcoming election.
