THANKS TO a brilliant 103 by Subodh Shrivastava, Uttar Pradesh trounced Rajasthan by 102 runs in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy under-19 cricket tournament being played at the Maharani Usha Raje cricket grounds in Indore on Friday.
Batting first, UP were off to a shaky start losing both the openers Gaurav Goyal and Chetan Singh for just 14 runs. Subodh was joined by Zahid Ali and both took the score to 207 when Subodh was finally dismissed for a well made 103 which contained 14 fours.
Zahid continued to hang around as wickets suddenly began to tumble at the other end. UP lost Ankit Tiwari and Eklavya Trivedi in quick succession and finally Zahid for 78 to leave the team at 229 for six. Sanjay Paul and Mohammed Khalid played the last few overs and took the team score to 245 for 6.
For Rajasthan, Azharuddin Khan and Sumit Khatri took two wickets apiece. In reply, Rajasthan lost opener Manish Sharma in the first over with the scoreboard showing 5.
UP medium pacer Wasim Haider bowled brilliantly and the Rajasthan top order just buckled under pressure. Soon Rajasthan were reeling at 48 for 5. Haider picked up four of those wickets in an incisive spell.
Sushil Khatri and Abhishek Tiwari then put on 36 runs before they lost Abhishek for 27.Azharuddin Khan joined Sushil and they tried to consolidate. But with the score at 108, they lost Sushil for his individual score of 22 and with the score at 126, they lost Azharuddin who was out for 42. Rajasthan were finally bowled out for 144. Wasim Haider took 5/48.
