Police arrested a top executive of the Tamil Nadu-based Sun TV Network on Friday after a former employee accused him of sexually harassing her while they worked together.
Crime branch officials stormed the house of C Praveen, the media group's chief operating officer (COO), at around 5 am and picked him up, following which a court remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days.
According to police, Praveen has been accused of sexually harassing a programme producer at Surya TV, a part of the Sun TV Network owned by faceless media tycoon Kalanithi Maran, five months ago. Kalanithi's brother Dayanidhi Maran is a prominent member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and a former union telecom minister.
The brothers, who are being investigated over money-laundering allegations linked to the 2G spectrum allocation scam, also run the cash-strapped SpiceJet airline.
Sun TV Network did not respond to HT's phone calls seeking a reaction, while a lawyer said Praveen is now likely to seek bail.
This is the second sexual harassment charge against a top employee of the organisation recently after a senior news editor was arrested on a complaint by a female anchor last year.
