External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will be with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to attend the 69th session of the United Nations general assembly in New York later this month.
In fact, the minister will also oversee the arrangements being made for Modi’s programmes in New York, including his public reception at the Madison square ground on September 28. The event would be broadcast live at the iconic Crystal Tower of the Times Square, with real-time English subtitles.
Information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar will go to the US to take stock of preparations before Swaraj arrives.
Modi will be leaving for the US on September 26 to attend the UNGA as well as for the much-awaited bilateral meeting with US President Barack Obama in Washington.
Swaraj will attend the meeting of G4 (Germany, India, Japan and Brazil) foreign ministers. The grouping has been pushing for the reforms of the UN and all of them aspire to be permanent members of the expanded security council.
