The suspicious presence of a man near the naka (checkpoint) outside the Pathankot airbase caused a security scare on Wednesday. The bearded man was wearing long boots and holding a black bag. Sensing danger, air force jawans immediately pinned him down on the ground.

With his hands up, the man lay flat on the road, even as air force jawans and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos were rushed to the spot. They took positions and told him not to move. For about 20 minutes, the man did not move an inch.

As more troops arrived, local residents gathered near the area, but they were told to move back. Soon, police also reached the place. The man’s bag was searched, but nothing suspicious was found. Air force jawans allowed him to go, but he was carried into a police jeep and whisked away.

Police claimed that the man was identified as Parmod, a resident of Siliguri (Assam).

Talking to HT, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Manoj Thakur said, “We have detained him and seized his Aadhaar card, but nothing suspicious has been found from him so far. We are verifying his details.”
