The suspect in the murder of a BJP activist was shot dead by police on Monday in an encounter near Parappana Agrahara area in the city, police said.
He has been identified as Parandhama, wanted in connection with the murder of BJP activist Chandrashekhara Babu in the vicinity of Lal Bagh on Saturday.
A team of City Crime Branch, which was trailing the movements of Parandhama, got information that he was in Koramangala area.
When the team went to arrest him in the wee hours of today, Parandhama tried to flee and on being chased, he attacked the police, in which a constable was injured.
“Police in self defence opened fire”, killing Parandhama on the spot at Naganathapura road near Parappana Agrahara, police said.
Parandharma (30), hailing from Tamil Nadu, faced several charges of extortion and three murder cases, police said.
The injured constable Nawaz has been hospitalised, police said.
