An Indian soldier was gunned down by suspected terrorists in a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district late on Wednesday, said an official.
The soldier, Mohammad Amin, was shot dead at his home in Phangai village, about 190 km from Jammu. According to official sources, Amin had come home on annual leave.
His neighbour Faiz Hussain was also injured in the shootout. It has not yet been ascertained as to which group is behind the killing, though the Hizbul Mujahideen is active in the area.
In Doda district, the police and the army have killed two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants. Identified as Ashiq Hussain alias Abu Thalla and Shabbir Ahmad alias Abu Bakr - both LeT commanders - they were killed in a gunfight at Darman in Gandoh area of the mountainous district late on Wednesday.
