The 39-year-old suspended police inspector is back in a lead role in a Marathi film.

The title of the film is Okarda (scratch) and it is produced by Subhangi Suresh Patil, his mother, for her production house Passion Unlimited.

The film was released in theatres in the city last week and is running in half-a-dozen theatres and multiplexes.

Patil was last posted with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch before he was suspended in September 2007.

Sadanand Date, the additional commissioner of police at the time, took the decision after he found the inspector had earlier that year travelled abroad without authorisation.

Service rules stipulate that every police officer give details of his travel plans, including the purpose of the visit, if going abroad.

Patil had allegedly violated the rules by undertaking a trip to Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore.
