It was a big day, but there was little fanfare. On the completion of one year in office, the Samajwadi Party (SP) did not hold any big show.
But sweets and pleasantries were exchanged during party meetings at all the district offices and the state headquarters in Lucknow.
The district units have been asked to launch a week-long programme to inform people about the achievements of the government.
Wild applause and slogans greeted the party's national president Mulayam Singh Yadav and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav at the Lucknow headquarters.
Given the beating the party's image has taken on the law and order front, Mulayam reminded workers and leaders to gain favour of the people with their behaviour, honesty and sincerity. He also cautioned them against letting any arrogance seep into their conduct.
Akhilesh said even rivals now admit that the SP government was implementing its manifesto.
"We came to power by force of majority. People have great expectations from us, but if they compare our performance with the Congress-led government at the Center or the erstwhile BSP government in the state, they would feel satisfied," the CM said.
"Despite the empty coffers that we inherited, we are managing to fulfill the promises we made. We will keep all promises and would give special attention to power and law and order," he added.
