Another swine flu patient died at the LBS Hospital on Saturday. This is the eighth death because of swine flu in the state and the fourth death in the city. The patient, Gayatri Bai, was undergoing treatment at the hospital for the past one week. Bai, a resident of Sagar, was admitted to the LBS Hospital as she had high fever and breathlessness.
Doctors at the hospital sent her sample for swine flu testing on Thursday. Chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr Pankaj Shukla said sample of the patient was sent for testing to the Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Jabalpur on Thursday. On Friday, the report of the RMRC confirmed that she had an H1N1 infection, he said. Dr Shukla said doctors started giving her Tamiflu medicine from Thursday but she died on Saturday morning around 9.30am.
Six new samples of suspected swine flu patients were sent to the RMRC for testing from various private hospitals of the city on Saturday. Dr Shukla said doctors have started giving Tamiflu to all the six suspected patients. The CMHO said out of these six patients the condition of four patients was critical. The hospitals from where the samples were sent are: LBS Hospital, Miracle Hospital, Hajela Hospital, Agrawal Hospital and Rainbow Hospital.
