Addressing jawans on his tour to Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts on Thursday, director general of police K Rajendra Kumar said the executive branch of the police was the first to respond to problems of the public and thus had a great responsibility to win public trust by delivering justice.

Rajendra said the timely disposal of public grievances could help in building the image of the force and in this exercise, tainted and selfish elements would not be tolerated. He added that to deal with cases of crime, the investigation process should be stepped up to bring the culprits to justice.

The DGP said people look towards police stations for help and for this, police personnel should display positive and good behavior. He said the police force had contributed immensely to the smooth conduct of

parliamentary elections and the challenge now were the forthcoming assembly polls.

Listening to the problems of jawans, Rajendra said the police headquarter would solve them at the earliest. He said the headquarter was reviewing current welfare schemes to simplify the procedure and in this connection, a central welfare fund committee meeting would be convened in which suggestions from representatives of all ranks and wings would be considered.
