There are better ways to spend your time in this country than obsessing about the plight of the poor, or the millions pilfered in graft. This ancient land, for one, is teeming with cash. You do not have to hold up a bank or go looking for secret vaults and hidden treasures to avail of the booty. For wads of currency notes are on the move, in trucks and trains, across hills and plains, for us to swoop down and carry off the cash.
For the sceptics, we can cite the recent example of the Andhra Pradesh police intercepting a truck, heading out from Bellary and purportedly belonging to jailed mining baron G Janardhan Reddy’s company, which contained three gunny bags stuffed with cash worth Rs4.95 crore. Reddy is apparently well-known for dumping cash in trucks loaded with iron ore and moving them to safe custody. To err on the side of caution, we must widen the search beyond minerals and metals and check out trucks carrying plantains, dried fish, chewing gum or what have you.
Of course, the intrepid bounty hunter may also strike it rich while scanning the coaches of the thousands of trains that the railways run. If the somewhat heedless Sandeep Dikshit had passed a while before you did, why, you might lay your hand on a neat pile that will ease that crease on your brow that comes from tightening purse strings. Last heard, more trucks are expected to come out of Bellary soon. Cash in on the opportunity while there is still time.
