Tamil leader gets UNESCO tolerance award

Born in Sri Lanka in 1933, Anadasangaree is described by UNESCO as an "indefatigable defender of democracy and the peaceful resolution of conflicts".

The President of the Tamil United Liberation Front Veerasingham Anadasangaree has won the 2006 UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh award for promotion of tolerance and non-violence, UNESCO said on Friday.

Born in Sri Lanka in 1933, Anadasangaree is described by UNESCO as an "indefatigable defender of democracy and the peaceful resolution of conflicts".

The award - worth $1,00,000 - will be presented on November 16.
