With an aim to improve skewed sex ratio, the Gurgaon administration has formed a district task force (DTF) to check female foeticide by creating awareness among people and taking stern action against those conducting pre-natal sex determination.
The administration will also rope in social and non-government organisations for preparing software to track pregnant women.
In Gurgaon, the present sex ratio is 853 girls to 1000 boys, which is less than the entire state’s ratio of 877:1000.
Deputy commissioner PC Meena on Thursday held the first meeting of the task force. He said that the task force would meet once a month to review the implementation of laws. It will also review the progress of prosecutions launched against errant diagnostic centres or doctors and design strategies to curb female foeticide with the help of civil society and public.
Meena said that any person can approach him directly or to the ADC, or SDM or civil surgeon lodge complaint against the ultrasound centre where pre-natal sex determination is done. The informer’s would be given R21000 and his or her name would be kept confidential.
The information can be given on the toll free number 102, phone number of civil surgeon office 0124-2322412 and at the district information and public relations officer's number 0124-2321479.
