Tata Steel honours sportspersons

Tata Steel Managing Director B Muthuraman on Friday handed out cash award to sportspersons including boxer Antrax Lalit Lakra for outstanding performance.

Besides Lakra, the award was given to four archers and a national archery coach during a ceremony by Tata Steel to celebrate New Year at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur.

While archers Rahul Banerjee and Jayanta Talukdar were given a cash award of Rupees one lakh each, Dharmendra Tiwary, the coach, was also given a similar amount by Muthuraman.

Junior girl archers V Pranitha and Rimil Biruly were given Rs 1,000 each while Lakra was handed out a cheque of Rs 50,000 for his recent performance abroad.

Speaking on the occasion, the Tata Steel Managing Director called for identifing and nurturing sport talent in rural pockets of the country.

Muthuraman assured that despite the global economic downturn, Tata Steel has no plan to cut its budget in social and sports activities.
