Legislators belonging to the Telugu Desam Party have decided to donate their three-month salary for drought relief measures in Andhra Pradesh.
TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu announced in the state assembly on Friday that all MPs, MLAs and MLCs of the party would donate the amount to the government for drought relief.
Naidu's announcement came after Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy made a plea to Opposition parties in the assembly yesterday to contribute money to drought relief following the decision by elected representatives of Congress to contribute 20 per cent of their month's salary.
Responding to the Chief Minister's suggestion, Naidu said his party MPs, MLAs and MLCs would contribute their three-month salary for the cause. He also promised his party's full support to the government in taking up drought relief measures.
"Let us not politicise drought since people are suffering. Condition of the farmers is pathetic, while cattle are being sold in distress. The government should do everything to provide relief to all the affected people," Naidu said.
