A local court has sentenced a teacher to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 in a case of rape and murder of a minor about four years ago.

Fast track court judge PK Srivastava on Monday awarded life sentence to one Surendra Yadav under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of murder of a girl at his house in Hukulganj locality under Cantonment police circle area on January 22, 2002.

The judge also sentenced Yadav to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 under section 376 and five years and a fine under section 201 charging him with raping and destroying evidences in the case.

The judge acquitted another accused Rajesh Yadav for lack of evidence against him in the case.
