FOR EFFECTIVE management of the colleges under the UP Technical University (UPTU), it has been decided to divide the varsity into several zones. There are about 230 odd colleges across the state under UP Technical University. Keeping a tab on each of these colleges was proving to be difficult for the varsity top brass. ?Thus, we have decided to divide the varsity in five zones. Each zone would have zonal headquarters for better supervision,? said UPTU V-C Prof Prem Vrat. As per the new division, for the 44 colleges in Zone I, the zonal headquarters would be Meerut?s MIET. Similarly, for 48 colleges in Zone II, Noida would be the Zonal HQ. Zone III, with 55 colleges would be managed from Mathura while Zone IV having 43 colleges would have its zonal HQ at Allahabad. The fifth zone, having 40 colleges would be monitored directly by the UP Technical University. Colleges in Baghpat, Bareilly, Bijnore, Meerut, Moradabad, Muzzafarnagar and Saharanpur have been put in zone I while those in Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida are in zone II. Agra, GB Nagar and Mathura colleges are in zone III. Incidentally, zone III has the maximum number of colleges (55). Allahabad, Azamgarh, Banda, Bhadohi, Etawah, Ghazipur, Jhansi, Jaunpur, Kanpur, Mirzapur and Varanasi colleges are in zone IV while those in Barabanki, Bahraich, Faizabad, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Maharajganj, Rai Bareilly, Sitapur and Sultanpur are in zone V. Ghaziabad and GB Nagar have the highest number of colleges- 36 each followed by Lucknow and Meerut with 23 colleges. Barring Kanpur (14) and Mathura (10) the remaining districts have colleges in single digits. ?Often it?s not possible to visit each and every institute personally. Now, during visits we would go directly to the zonal HQ and take stock of the situation of the colleges falling under that particular zone. If required we may also arrange for a meeting of college directors of a given zone in the zonal HQ,? the V-C said. This is the first time that such a division, aimed at effective management, has been resorted to by a university in the state. The UP Technical University with over a lakh student studying in colleges under its control is easily the biggest varsity of the state and one of the biggest of the country. District wise details of various colleges with number of institutions enrolled etc have already been prepared. The Uttar Pradesh Technical University officials are hopeful that the latest move would help streamline things in various colleges. ?Now, the colleges would know that there is someone watching them all the while,? a UP Technical University official said.
