A TWO-day workshop from September 9, organised by Robotics Institute (TRI) of the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), will kick off the robotics competition ‘Nexus’ – which is part of Techfest-2007 – the 10th annual International Science and Technology festival of the IIT, Mumbai.
‘Nexus’ has been conceptualised with the objective of taking robotics to students in different parts of the country. At the inaugural edition of this programme, a robotics competition titled ‘Void: The National Robotics Challenge’ will be held on August 30 at MANIT. The competition involves constructing a manually controlled robot, which can perform specific tasks.
This competition will be held in two stages - the first stage at Bhopal on September 30 to be followed by the grand finale at IIT, Mumbai during the main Techfest celebration in January 2007.
The top four entries at Nexus will receive Rs 10,000 each as prize money along with a direct entry into the quarterfinals at Techfest in January 2007. The competition kicks off on September 9 with a two-day workshop by The Robotics Institute (TRI) at MANIT Bhopal that deals with basic robotics. It will provide hands on knowledge how to build a machine that can do a specified task.
Interested students have to form teams of maximum four members and register themselves online. Outstation students will be provided accommodation at MANIT itself. Take away kits will be provided at the venue and participants will have to assemble it to form a machine that does a specified task.
They will be guided in their quest by lectures and interactive sessions spread over two days so as to give participants enough time to try their own ideas. For more information and registration students can check out the website www.techfest.org/nexus/manit.php.
