QUICK ACTION by police and City CID resulted in safe recovery of a kidnapped boy and the arrest of both his kidnappers in just over a couple of hours of the incident this afternoon.

According to information, the victim, Rajendra Chandel (16), son of S K Chandel of Minal Residency, is a student of Class XII of Vikram HS School in Piplani area. He had left for school in the morning as usual.

However, the accused, Ashok (24) and Pramod (16), who are acquainted to Rajendra, were waiting outside the school on a Pulsar motorcycle. They first tried to lure Rajendra to come with them, but when he refused the culprits took him with them forcibly.

The abductors headed to an isolated spot near the Barkatullah University and hid along with Rajendra in the bushes there. The culprits had bought a new mobile SIM card and from that they called up Rajendra’s father thrice saying they had abducted Rajendra. They demanded a ransom of Rs two lakh within two hours or else threatened to kill Rajendra.

S K Chandel and his family members panicked at hearing the news of Rajendra’s kidnapping and informed the police. The City CID was also informed and a strategy was formed to rescue Rajendra.

Meanwhile, S K Chandel managed to collect the required money borrowing part of it from family and friends. Police directed him to go and put the money in a bag at the place told to him by the abductors.

At about 3.30 pm, the bag containing Rs two lakh was kept in the bushes near BU as demanded by the culprits. However, a police team kept watch on the bag from a hidden spot.

As soon as one of the culprits came to the spot to collect the money, police pounced on him. He led the police team to his accomplice who was hiding in the nearby bushes along with Rajendra.

Police arrested both abductors and rescued Rajendra safely. During interrogation, it was revealed that one of the culprits, Ashok, works at a shopping mall at Indrapuri area from where Rajendra and his family always did their shopping. Rajendra knew him from there.  It was also revealed that Ashok is a seasoned criminal with several cases of loot and theft registered against him. The other abductor, Pramod, is also a vagabond.

The culprits told the police that they had to repay Rs 25000 they had borrowed from someone and had planned the kidnapping to pay back the money from the ransom amount. Police have registered a case of abduction against both culprits and further investigations are on in the matter.
