Teenager caught 'stealing' baby from hospital

A teenaged girl was detained after being caught while allegedly stealing a baby girl from Burdwan Medical College Hospital, police said on Sunday.

Four-month-old Siddiqul Sahaji was admitted to the hospital in Burdwan district with urine infection on Thursday. Her mother Nurjahan Begum was staying with her in the children's ward.

After returning from toilet last midnight, Nurjahan could not find her daughter on the bed and allged that the saw the teeanger leaving the ward with the child through the balcony, the sources said.

The teenager, a minor, was caught. However, she told the police that she found the baby crying and took her to the balcony to quieten her.

The girl, a resident of Ausgram, claimed that she had come to the hospital for an x-ray which was not done. So she waited to get it done the next day, the sources said.
