The BJP has decided to field the scion of the erstwhile royal family of Tehri Garhwal, Manjuvendra Shah, in the coming by-election to the Tehri Lok Sabha seat in Uttarakhand that fell vacant after his father Manavendra Shah died recently. The by-poll is scheduled to be held along with the Assembly elections on February 21.

Manjuvendra, who has no previous experience in politics, beat India’s ace shooter Jaspal Rana in the keen contest for the BJP ticket as the party leadership reckoned him to be their best bet for the by-poll. He is expected to benefit from the tremendous goodwill that his father , the late Maharaja, enjoyed among the electorate.
