Student leaders in Osmania University on Sunday alleged that police were preventing students of Telangana region from reaching the city to attend the students' convention scheduled to be held in the university campus this evening.
"Police were stopping the students at various places in Telangana from attending the 'Vidyarthi Garjana' (roar of students) this evening," the students' leaders said.
"The High Court has given conditional permission for the meeting. We will abide by that. Police should not stop us from attending the meet," they said.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court last evening gave conditional permission to Osmania University Students Joint Action Committee (JAC) to hold the meeting.
Earlier, the city police commissioner had denied permission for the same fearing law and order problem.
The court said the meeting should be held from 4 pm to 6.30 pm and should not be extended beyond and no rallies should be taken out. The court also set a condition that there should not be any provocative speeches and the students should cooperate with the police.
The students were asked to execute personal bonds that there would not be any law and order problem. However, the court said the police would act if there is law and order problem.
