Ten persons were on Thursday arrested in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh for running an unauthorised university and issuing fake certificates.
A Home department spokesman in Lucknow said that on a tip off, ten persons including the ringleader Manish Pratap Singh were arrested from Ranchi Banger locality under Refinery police station area in Mathura.
Those arrested were running a fake 'Gurukul University' and also issuing fake certificates of recognised institutions, the spokesman said adding thousands of fake mark sheets, stamps and computers were recovered from them.
A country-made gun, two cartridges and over Rs one lakh were also seized. Manish already has six similar charges registered against him in Delhi and has also been to jail with a case under the Gangsters Act in Mathura, the spokesman added.
