THERE WAS stone pelting in Toda area this evening after members of two communities came to face to face after two youths  - Rajesh and Gufran - had a scuffle and supporters of the former injured Gufran with a sword. Gufran has been admitted to MY Hospital.

Heavy police force had to be rushed to the spot to control the situation and Collector Vivek Aggrawal and SP Anshuman Yadav toured the narrow lanes and by-lanes of the Toda area to inspire confidence among the people. After around half-an-hour things were back to normal and the traffic flow that had been disrupted became normal. However, a police picket has been placed there.

According to locals and police, the incident occurred at the junction of Sanjay Setu and Jawahar Marg. The genesis of the problem is one Nanda Bai, who is said to be involved in illicit liquor trade.

Though she was earlier a Congress supporter, she has now changed her allegiance to the BJP. Apparently, some Muslims, including Gufran, came and told her that they would force her to stop her trade, following which her son Rajesh and his friends attacked Gufran. Soon Gufran’s friends came to his aid and there was heavy stone pelting from both sides. Some
shops along the Sanjay Setu were also damaged.

Agrawal said that it was essentially a fight between two families and they had fought earlier also. He added that this should not be seen as a communal incident.

SP Anshuman Yadav said that complaints were being lodged in this connection and those guilty would be arrested.
