Just after four days of the arrest of Bashrat Ahmed Teli, a teenager who lobbed a grenade at Gol Chakrali in Shopian Kashmir, Kathua Police on Wednesday foiled an attempt by ANEs (anti national elements) to recruit young boys from district Kathua to join terrorism and arrested four persons in this regard.

The trend of terrorism has changed with mounting pressure upon the terrorists. Terrorists feel their free movements are restricted and so they have targeted the teenagers who are vulnerable for exploitation on the basis of religion and can be lured through money as well. Eighth class student Bashrat Ahmed Teli, resident of Nildoora was lured for only Rs 500 to lob a grenade on a security convoy by his motivators Shahswar and Mudasar associated with HUM outfit.

This attack on January 6 resulted into four being dead and scores injured.
According to SSP Kathua JP Singh, the arrested had been identified as
Mohammed Showkat s/o Said Mohammed of Nagrota, Mohammed Mani s/o Jeela
Ahmed r/o Gura Kalyal, Mohammed Makhan s/o Bobi Mohammed of Gujru
Nagrota and Dimple Kumar s/o Satpal Varma of Mukwal Ramkote.

Police reports claimed that during routine checking the police party intercepted a TATA Sumo plying on Dhar-Mahanpur Road and got suspicious over the movements of the passengers on board in the said vehicle.

On questioning the persons could not account for their movement and as they looked suspicious, the police party carried out a thorough scanning of the vehicle and their belongings, police said.

From the documents recovered from them some names and addresses of persons belonging to Kishtwar (District Doda) were found. On further verification they turned out to be active terrorists of Doda District, police added. It further claimed that the suspects who were then put to sustained questioning revealed that Showkat Ali was a launching incharge of HUJI of District Kathua. He had motivated the above said persons namely Mohammed Mani, Mohammed Makhan and Dimple Kumar to join terrorism and lured them by offering large cash/amount. He has been involved in terrorist activities in Doda district where he had acted as informer earlier and also served as guide to terrorists in the newly created district Kishtwar.

Intensive and sustained questioning also revealed that he has recruited about seven boys from Kishtwar area and made them join terrorism during the last 3-4 years.
