Terrorist killed in Kishtwar, SPO arrested in Poonch

A Lashakar-e-Toiba terrorist was shot dead in an encounter in Kishtwar district on Thursday morning. Another terrorist managed to slip through the cordon.

SP Kishtwar Haseeb Mughal said, “Asiq Iqbal s/o Ghulam Qadir r/o Hanch Doda was shot dead. He was LeT terrorist and was active in the area for quite some time.”

According to the police, on receiving specific information about the presence of terrorists in Thaphri top, about 45 kms from Kishtwar town, a joint operation of 11 RR and state police was launched.

Police said a group of about 8 terrorists were hiding in the area but most of the them managed to escape taking advantage of maize fields. Police said only two terrorists were trapped in the cordon one was shot dead. Eight rounds, grenades, and pencil cells were recovered from him.

In Poonch, the police have sent Nizan-ud-din, who allegedly had supplied fake currency amounting to Rs 1.70 lakhs to two Territorial Army jawans, to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC). Nizam-ud-din was arrested on Wednesday. Fake currency of Rs 10,000 was recovered from him.

Police said 32-year old Nizam-ud-din’s brother Bashir is a terrorist and presently he is in PoK. Nizam-ud-din told police that he has been crossing over the LoC for last 12-year and had brought in consignments of different nature including fake currency. Police also arrested a Special Police Officer (SPO) Zia-ud-din attached with CID and seized fake currency of Rs 7,000 from him.

Police said two TA jawans, arrested on Tuesday for possessing Rs 1.70 lakh fake currency, had supplied this amount to him.
