Terrorists killed a soldier on Wednesday evening, creating panic in a Jammu and Kashmir town.
Police said the guerrillas fired at the soldier from a close range in the main market in Kangan, 35 kms from Srinagar on the Srinagar-Kargil highway, and escaped.
"He died instantly," said a police officer in Srinagar.
The killing triggered panic in the market with shopkeepers and shoppers running for safety.
Security forces soon surrounded the market place and launched a search.
