Tesco, Britain's biggest retailer, has announced the transfer of 190 finance processing jobs from Cardiff to Bangalore over the next 12 to 18 months.
A Tesco spokesman said: "Businesses change and we are constantly looking at ways of improving the organisation. There are some types of jobs which are appropriate to be taken to our excellent service centre in India.
"There are also some jobs that customers have told us they would like to see remain in the UK. We have two excellent call centres in Cardiff and in Dundee."
The spokesman said that staff affected by the losses would have the chance to take jobs elsewhere within Tesco or receive assistance if they wanted to leave.
Cardiff North Labour MP Julie Morgan, who represents the area, said: "I am dismayed at the announcement because I thought we had reached a stable situation."
