In today’s world of tension and depression, happiness is one thing that is disappearing fast. We are going fast only to accumulate more tangible things but doing nothing to be happy. We keep on thinking that our riches will bring us happiness one day!

A wise man asked why we don’t say, "Happiness can be had now and here, instead of our saying that one day it will be ours". This means that it is our state of mind that decides whether we are actually happy or not.

Whenever we achieve our first targeted goal, instead of celebrating it, we set our next goal immediately; and that special moment becomes an ordinary moment. We should always try to enjoy and celebrate even the small successes of life before setting the next goal. We all tell ourselves we will be happy when we get out of school...get our first job...get married …have a baby and so on. Why don’t we tell ourselves that there is no better time to be happy than now and try to celebrate the small achievements of life as they come.

Happiness is not something that comes to you, you have to create it. Happiness is like a butterfly which when pursued is beyond your grasp; but if you sit down quietly, it may give you a pleasant surprise. There are two key factors which play a pivotal role in keeping you happy --- positive thoughts and inner smile. Positive emotions give you energy but negative emotions deplete your energy. Happier people are more productive and more successful.

If we adopt the policy, “take life as it comes”, then negative energy can be converted into positive energy. It’s time to choose to be happy. Happiness is enjoying the journey.
