I READ with great interest the news item in HT Bhopal Live concerning the Interceptor Van remaining non-functional after the damage to the hi-tech camera.

The traffic police’s actions to streamline the traffic are nullified firstly because of the shortage of manpower and its mobility and, secondly, because of the lack of implementation of whatever plans they make.

A few months back, through your esteemed newspaper, I had suggested some steps to help the Traffic Police but they were ignored. One of the TV local channels also said that the Chief Secretary had taken a serious view of the parking mismanagement and the traffic chaos in New Market.

The present situation is a great cause of concern to everyone and invited minor or fatal accidents. It is therefore imperative for the Traffic Department to make all-out efforts and strictly implement the rules, without any leniency in penalising the offenders.

They should have a large number of checking points, should increase the manpower and mobility for chasing the law-breakers and finally delegating the powers down the line.  The first and foremost step is to check the driving licences and vehicle papers. The citizens should also extend full cooperation to the Traffic Police and abide by the traffic rules, which would definitely help in improving the traffic system.
