Each one of us at some point of time feels the need for a mentor, someone who can show us the way. But we have given little thought to the little ones around us who live a far better life than we do. Yes, children are indeed our ‘Little Gurus’!

You will be surprised to know that I got to learn the mantra of living a happy life from my little kid. The best part was that I never realised I was learning the secrets of happy existence from this tiny tot every day, all the time.

I used to wonder how kids manage to stay energetic and ‘on the go’ all the time. While the older lot are ever ready to recline on a couch or stretch on a bed, the younger ones don’t even bother to sit down. The secret lies in eating little and frequently. It keeps our digestive system happy. That is the first step towards good health.

The latest epidemic of the 21st century is stress and we are all victims in some way or the other. Though we are very busy, we are able to find time to worry about what happened and what did not happen. We are physically in the present; mentally we are either in the past or in the future. Can we ever see a child in that state?

I believe happiness lies in being busy with full concentration. Have you ever noticed that when you were able to concentrate on a movie, a book, or anything of your choice, you feel happy and content? Concentration gives us a sense of achievement. It also withdraws us from worries that bother our mind when it is idle. If you want to learn how to concentrate, learn from a child. That is why it is aptly said, ‘Focus like a child’.
