What makes you remain happy and realise your ultimate goal? There are some ‘basic powers’ that help one carry out one’s day-to-day work successfully.

‘Practical Meditation’, a booklet by Brahma Kumaris, lists eight such ‘powers’ that one must possess for a successful and meaningful life.

These are the power to tolerate, have courage, cooperate, accommodate, indiscriminate, judge, withdraw thoughts and reject waste thoughts. One gets a chance to use or misuse any of these powers in any given situation.

In today’s scenario of high tension, the power to tolerate is the most important one. This gives one the ability to turn negative situations into positive ones. It makes you like the tree that showers you with fruits even after you attack it.

The power to have courage to face life’s difficulties comes from positive thinking and doing good things. Meditation can boost this power. You have to be like the sea which accepts all the rivers without resistance. You ought to be dynamic and should be able to mould your attitude as demanded by any situation. That helps you stand upright in the toughest of times. Closely followed is the power to cooperate; you have to see others as your own kin.

The power to discriminate and the power to reject waste thoughts make you work on right thoughts. That keeps you free of negative vibes and thus maintains happiness.

The power to judge helps you take decisions in a correct and unbiased manner so that the outcome is just and satisfies all concerned.

And lastly, the power to withdraw from thoughts helps detach yourself from physical existence and be in touch with your soul and be free from rigours of life.
