Mother’s Day trivia
Mother's Day that falls this year on May 8 is celebrated on the second Sunday of May in India and US. Some other countries celebrate the day in the month of April. It is believed that Anna Jarvis in West Virginia, US, created the day in 1908 to honour one’s mother. She did it in an effort to accomplish her mother’s dream of making a celebration for all mothers. Earlier, in 1870 too, the Mother’s Day Proclamation by Julia Ward Howe, an abolitionist and social activist, had made a call to celebrate Mother’s Day, guided by the belief that women can shape societies at the political level. Since then the day is celebrated across the globe.
