Theft at PHQ

Highlight Story

THIEVES STRUCK at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) where they cut sandalwood trees and took away the wood. Five police personnel have reportedly been suspended for laxity.

The incident has stunned  law enforcers as the thieves not only managed to sneak into the PHQ but also cut and take away sandalwood late on Thursday night.

Sources said the theft was discovered on Friday when  officials found the trees chopped off. Subsequently, senior police officials of the Bhopal range also inspected the spot.

It is suspected that some police personnel deployed in the security may have been in cahoots with the thieves, otherwise such an incident from the high-security zone could not have occurred.

Action has been taken against five personnel of 34th battalion of the Special Armed Forces (SAF) who have been suspended and sent back to the battalion. They include Company Commander J S Rawat, Assistant Commander K N Singh Markam and three Head Constables.

However, the audacity of the thieves has surprised the police brass. Especially because security has been tightened at the PHQ in the recent past.

The Jehangirabad police have registered a case of theft and are investigation the matter. Meanwhile, the officials maintained silence over the incident. Earlier also, thefts have been reported at the PHQ. The sandalwood and computer parts have been stolen in separate incidents in the past years.
