Accusing the Congress and BJP governments of bringing the country to the verge of "destruction", the CPI(M) on Sunday claimed that the third front will come to power at the Centre after the coming polls as people are looking for change.

"The third front would form the government after the next Lok Sabha elections as the Congress and BJP have brought the nation to the verge of destruction and people want change," CPI(M) General Secertary Prakash Karat said at a party rally in Fatehabad on Sunday.

Seeking to take credit for most of the welfare meassures taken by the UPA, Karat said it was due to his party that the employment guarantee act was passed and implemented in the country.

"We struggled to solve the problems of the masses in and outside Parliament. Congress wanted to nationalise all the banks but due to our opposition it could not succeed in its designs. This is the reason why global recession has still not affected the country much. Had our banks been nationalised, they would have become bankrupt by now", he said.

Reiterating that the Left parties gave their support to the Congress to prevent the BJP from coming to power, he said "We were compelled to withdraw our support when Congress became adamant over nuclear pact with the US."

Party's state secretary Inderjit Singh declared that CPM would contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from Sirsa seat.
