This summer can be Beer(y) cool
As summer sets in with a vengeance, it’s time you map the watering holes, so you’ll always know which way to head for a chilled glass of beer. If you like your beer fresh beat the heat with a glass of freshly brewed chilled beer — here’s where you can head to.india Updated: Apr 07, 2011 00:28 IST
A beer brewery, for the uninitiated, is an independent, fully functional bio-chemical plant where malt is converted into beer that is served fresh to patrons. Which means no stinky carbonated bottles, no stale after-breaths, no hot-cold alterations in taste.
Howzatt in Galaxy Hotel was the first to throw open its gates, back in 2008, and serves light, premium and dark lagers, apart from their signature lime and orange brews. It is cricket-themed — complete with books and interiors inspired from the game. The no-fuss finger food adds to the fun. "Oh, it’s my staple supplier," smiles Sharda Singh, a businesswoman and regular at Howzatt.
Rockman’s at Ambience Mall boasts of three sections spread over a whopping 36,000 sq ft — Bavarian (a German-style pub), Keg and Barrels (a restaurant and bar) and Rockdome (an auditorium with a projection screen). Try the wheat beer, or Weissbeer, or the lager strong, if you’re looking to get sloshed. The grub, too, is a refreshing change, sans the usual tikkas and tandooris.
Vapour, which stands where the food court used to, at MGF Megacity Mall, began last year. Its interiors are soft and wooden.
Corporates and expats clink their mugs and plasma screens play soccer. In one corner of the 18,000 sq ft space, sits a royal lounge for private parties. You can choose from their light, premium, wheat and dark beer — all fresh and frothy. The mish-mash menu could do with some spell checks, but the spick-n-span brewing unit, and a brew-master who loves to give you gyaan, quite make up. "People of all ages are beer aficionados, and once they’ve downed this stuff, they can differentiate the canned from bottled varieties. It’s also healthier and tastier," says general manager Mritunjai Tiwary, who was with Rockman’s Beer Island earlier.
