Three AIADMK functionaries, sentenced to death in the Dharmpauri bus burning case, will be hanged on January 10, according to a warrant issued by the Salem first session court. The session judge has sent the warrant to the Coimbatore Central Prison where the hanging will be carried out.
Three girl students of the TamilNadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, were burnt alive on February 2, 2000 when their college bus was set ablaze near Elakiyampatti in Dharmapuri, after AIADMK workers stopped it while agitating against the conviction of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the Kodaikanal Pleasant Stay Hotel case.
The Madras HC on December 6 had upheld the death sentence awarded by a lower court to 3 AIADMK workers.
According to legal circles the sentence may not be carried out on January 10 as the three may get a stay from SC where their appeal against the death sentence is pending.
