Police have arrested two cops on the charges of abduction and rape of a girl staying at Talwara migrant camp in Reasi town near Katra, 40 km from here. The third accused policeman is on the run.

The police have said that the victim's parents filed a missing report on Thursday evening. The parents claim that their daughter is a minor, while police say she is apparently about 18 years old.

The police on Friday night raided a house and arrested assistant sub-inspector Harmesh Mehta and special police officer (SPO) Karnail Singh, while third accused Satvir Singh, personal assistant to Reasi SSP, managed to flee.

The girl was examined medically and produced before the chief judicial magistrate to record her statement. The accused have been charged under Section 376 (attempt to rape) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

Locals said they had complained to the police about the alleged similar activities of the accused personnel.
