A day after the father of a slain ex-Sarpanch of Hayatpur village was shot at, the police on Friday detained three people for their alleged involvement in the attack.

According to police, all the three were involved in an apparent attempt to kill Shiv Narayan Yadav, 53. Yadav, the father of Hayatpur’s ex-Sarpanch Rakesh Yadav, is in hospital after being shot on Thursday by the younger brothers of Rakesh alias Lilu, who has been facing trial after being arrested for killing the village head on June 23.

Police sources said the three people are contract killers and they are being interrogated. A hunt is on to trace the other accused who are still absconding.

On Thursday, the police said that Rakesh's younger brothers-Mukesh and Manoj — along with a villager Bhupendra alias Cittu and three others attacked Yadav. “Manoj was also hospitalised after being hit by a bullet from unknown source. He is under police observation,” a police officer said.

Police have sought help of forensic experts to find out who fired at Manoj. “We want authentic information and ballistic experts would be helpful in solving this mystery,” said Abey Singh Rao, DCP west, Gurgaon.
