Three militants, including the divisional commander of the banned organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), were killed in an encounter in north Kashmir’s Sopore district, on Monday. The police said the encounter began at 2pm following a tip-off about the presence of militants in a residential building in Dangerpora area.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that three to four militants could be trapped in the house.
Inspector general of police AG Mir said the slain militants included Pakistani militant Hassan, who has been in the divisional commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed. “Hassan was active in the area since 2007.”
Calling the operation a “major success”, Mir said it was part of an ongoing anti-terrorist operation in the area. The operation was going on at the time of filing of this report.
