Three unidentified militants were killed in a gunfight by a combined force of 16th Assam Rifles and police commandos in Imphal West district of Manipur, official sources said on Thursday.
Sources said security personnel raided Sangaithel area on Wednesday night at around eight pm following reports of movement of some militants.
Security personnel searching the foothill at Sangaithel spotted some persons moving suspiciously. The militants opened fire when they were asked to stop, officials said.
In the ensuing encounter that lasted for 30 minutes, three militants were killed.
One AK 56 rifles, one 9mm pistol, one grenade and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot.
In a separate incident, suspected militants shot dead an unidentified youth at Heirang Keiren in Imphal West district on Wednesday.
All the four bodies were taken to Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital in Imphal for identification and postmortem, sources said.
Over 280 persons were so far killed in militancy-related crimes in Manipur this year.
