Three guerrillas believed to be of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit were killed on Thursday in a gunfight with security forces in a mountainous area of Jammu and Kashmir, a police officer said.
The security forces were tipped off about the presence of a group of militants in Srawa area of mountainous Kishtwar district, around 220 km from Jammu.
The police and army troops laid a cordon around the area in the morning, said Hemant Lohia, deputy inspector general of police.
The militants had taken shelter in an abandoned cow shelter.
Lohia said the gunfight erupted after militants fired at the security forces and were gunned down in the two-hour long exchange of fire. "In all probability, they belonged to the Lashkar-e-Taiba," Lohia said.
