Three militants have been killed in separate encounters with security personnel in Manipur's interior Thoubal district, official sources said today.
Personnel of 34th Assam Rifles and police commandos while frisking Langmeithek area, about 35 km south-east of Imphal, detected some persons moving in a suspicious manner last night, sources said.
When asked to stop, the militants opened fire, they said, adding that in the ensuing encounter, two militants who were suspected to be members of People's United Liberation Front (PULF) were killed.
One 9mm pistol, one country made carbine, one grenade and some rounds of ammunitions were recovered from the spot, sources said.
In another incident which occurred last night, commandos attached to Thoubal district police gunned down a militant in an encounter at Heirok area, about 40 km south-east of Imphal, sources said, adding that one 9mm pistol and some rounds of ammunition were recovered from the victim.
Over 365 persons were so far killed in militancy- related crimes in Manipur this year, sources added.
