Congress leader PJ Kurian, PR Rajan of CPI-M and CPI State Assistant secretary KE Ismail are set to enter the Rajya Sabha without being challenged when they became the only three candidates to file their nomination papers.

If their nominations are found in order, their election will be a mere formality, Legislature secretary office sources said. The deadline for filing of papers ended on Friday.

The scrutiny of nominations is on June 17 and the election is scheduled for June 26.

Considering the present electoral arithmetic in the 140-member state assembly, ruling LDF could win two seats while opposition UDF one.
