Three of the 24 policemen accused in the 1994 Rampur Jiraha police firing incident appeared in the special CBI court in , the hearing of which was deferred till September 16.
The court has granted exemption to the other 21 accused in the case from personally appearing in the court.
The case was adjourned till September as the Allahabad court had earlier issued a stay order in the case.
All the accused face charges under sections 376 (rape), 392 (robbery), 354 (assault or criminal force on women), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt), 509 (intent to insult the modesty of women) and 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Six persons were killed when police resorted to firing on a group of activists demanding a separate state of Uttarakhand near Rampur Tiraha in the district on October 2, 1994.
CBI took up the investigation following a High Court directive in January 1995.
